The Perth CityLink redevelopment of a new urban community involving a new hotel, offices, shops, cafés, bars and apartments as well as new public spaces forms part a $5.2 billion renewal project.
The 13.5 hectare development running east-west through an area in the city centre bounded by the Mitchell Freeway, Roe Street, Wellington Street and the Horseshoe Bridge will reconnect the CBD with Northbridge for the first time in more than 100 years.
Once complete, the area will house around 3,000 people through 1,200 new apartments as well as providing employment for around 13,500 new workers in approximately 150,000 square meters of office and retail space and delivering improved connectivity within the city and better linkages to the foreshore.
Planning Minister John Day says the awarding of the contract represents a further milestone in the project’s delivery and follows the release of plans for the City Square as well as the commencement of construction on three of Seven Holding’s buildings at Kings Square and completion of the underground rail works six months ahead of schedule.
He said investment of around $3 billion in the 5.1 hectare land holding alone to which the latest contract relates will generate several hundred jobs during construction.
“In the next 10-15 years, West Australians can expect to see this area transformed with quality designed buildings, inviting public spaces and improved connections across the city” Day said.
“The total number of people who will live and work at the CityLink once complete will be equivalent to the current population of Broome, some 16,500 people.”
